CIMC Raffles Delivers Clean-Energy Ro-Ro Vessel to Smyril Line

DNV and fitted with a high-efficiency power system intended to ensure manoeuvrability and reliability in severe sea conditions. The vessel is built to methanol-ready specifications and equipped with battery systems and shore-power connections, features expected to cut carbon emissions by more than 60% per tonne of cargo compared with Smyril Line's existing fleet. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the contract for the two-vessel series was placed on 1 Feb 2024, and the SKIPANES has a deadweight of about 12,000 tonnes. The vessel has been purpose-built to withstand the complex sea states and extreme weather typical of the North Atlantic, aiming to combine efficient commercial operation with reduced emissions. The delivery represents a concrete milestone in the partnership between CIMC Raffles and Smyril Line and underscores the shipbuilder's capabilities in designing and constructing high-end clean-energy Ro-Ro vessels, positioning the company for further expansion in the global high-end Ro-Ro market. A second sister vessel remains under construction as part of the same contract.
