A new offshore wind operation vessel built for Norwind Offshore has arrived at the Vard Søviknes shipyard in Norway, marking a key construction milestone for the vessel, designated NB 986. The ship is a subsidiary of Fincantieri. Based on the VARD 4 19 design, NB 986 has been developed specifically to support sustainable offshore wind farm operations. Having
reached the Søviknes facility, the vessel will now proceed through further outfitting, installation and commissioning stages ahead of its eventual delivery to Norwind Offshore. VARD, Fincantieri's Norway-based shipbuilding subsidiary, specialises in the design and construction of specialised vessels, including those serving the offshore wind and energy sectors. The arrival of NB 986 at its outfitting yard reflects continued activity in the offshore wind support vessel segment, as operators expand fleets capable of servicing wind farm installation and maintenance work. Fincantieri and VARD said the project reflects their broader focus on delivering vessels aligned with sustainable maritime operations, as the offshore wind industry continues to require specialised support tonnage for construction and servicing activities.
