Iino Lines has taken delivery of the Lumi Aurora, a new very large gas carrier (VLGC) equipped with LPG dual-fuel propulsion technology. The vessel is designed to run on liquefied petroleum gas alongside conventional fuel, a configuration intended to reduce carbon dioxide emissions compared with ships using traditional marine fuel oil. The Lumi Aurora also holds an Ice Class IB notation, allowing it
to operate in ice-covered waters. This classification broadens the vessel's operational range, enabling it to serve routes that pass through colder, ice-prone regions in addition to standard open-water trades. The delivery reflects a wider trend among shipowners toward dual-fuel vessels as the industry works to lower its environmental footprint under tightening international emissions regulations. LPG dual-fuel VLGCs are increasingly viewed as a transitional solution, offering reduced emissions while leveraging existing LPG carrier infrastructure and cargo-handling expertise. With the addition of the Lumi Aurora, Iino Lines expands its fleet with a vessel combining emissions-reduction capability and ice-class resilience, positioning the company to serve a broader set of trade routes while aligning with ongoing efforts across the shipping sector to build more sustainable and adaptable fleets.
