Navigation Maritime Bulgare has taken delivery of a new 32,000 DWT bulk carrier named m/v Stara Planina, with the ship's flag raised on 20 Aug 2026 at the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. The vessel is the last of fifteen bulk carriers in the Kom series ordered by Navibulgar. The godmother of the ship is Genoveva Popova, a document control specialist in the company's Operations department. Captain Nikolay Stanev and engineer Yuri Dimitrov have been named the vessel's first
master and chief engineer respectively. This is the third ship in Navibulgar's history to bear the name Stara Planina, after the Bulgarian mountain range. The first, a 9,423 TDW ore carrier, had her flag raised in Japan in 1964 and served the company for nearly four decades. The second, a 42,704 DWT bulk carrier built in Varna, entered service in 2008 and remained in the Navibulgar fleet until 2023. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the Stara Planina was delivered as part of a three-vessel order placed at Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, first reported on 02 Dec 2024, with the two sister hulls still listed as on order for delivery within the 2026 calendar year. The delivery of the new Stara Planina is part of a broader investment programme, with eleven more ships scheduled for delivery over the next three years. Navibulgar said it will continue its tradition of naming newly built bulk carriers after Bulgarian mountains and peaks.
