HD HHI, SIMA Perú Launch Second Landing Support Ship for Peru

Based on HHI's HDL-1400 LCU design, the vessel has a full-load displacement of approximately 1,646 tons, measures 58.9 meters long with a 13.2-meter beam, and reaches a maximum speed of 10 knots. It can carry military vehicles, up to 21 shipping containers, 211 cubic meters of freshwater and 223 cubic meters of fuel, and features a rear aviation deck for helicopter operations, supporting both military logistics and disaster relief missions. The vessels stem from a USD 463 million contract signed on 16 Apr 2024 covering a 3,400-ton frigate, a 2,200-ton offshore patrol vessel, and two 1,500-ton landing craft units, with delivery to the Peruvian Navy expected by 2029. The program marks HD HHI's largest export order to Latin America's defense sector and reflects a shift toward local joint construction, with HHI providing design and technical support while SIMA Perú handles fabrication. HD HHI is also conducting basic design work on Peru's next-generation submarine program, and further orders for frigates, patrol vessels and landing ships are anticipated over the next 15 years.
