Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a unit of Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd., has delivered the 175,000-cubic-metre LNG carrier YANGZE LNG 01, the first large-scale LNG carrier completed by a privately owned Chinese shipbuilder. The delivery brings the number of Chinese shipyards with proven track records in building and delivering large LNG carriers to five, the most of any country. The vessel measures 297 metres in length, 46 metres in beam and 26.5 metres in depth, and is classed by Bureau Veritas (BV).
It uses the GTT Mark III Flex membrane containment system and is powered by two dual-fuel MAN 5G70ME-C10.5-GA-EGRBP engines, supported by a 1.5-ton-per-hour reliquefaction plant. The ship meets the strictest International Maritime Organization emission standards in both fuel-oil and gas-fuel operating modes. Bureau Veritas has awarded the vessel class notations including LNGfuel dualfuel, AVM-DPS for propulsion redundancy, SYS-NEQ-1 for one-man bridge operation, CLEAN SHIP and GREEN PASSPORT, positioning it for compliant long-term operation. YANGZE LNG 01 has secured a time-charter agreement with a major global commodity trading company for a period of four to five years. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the vessel was part of a two-vessel order for SP Chemicals that was reported on 19 Nov 2024, with YANGZE LNG 01 delivered on 19 Aug 2026 while its sister vessel remains on order for delivery between 2027 and 2028. The delivery marks a milestone for China's shipbuilding sector, extending large LNG carrier construction capability beyond state-owned yards to private industry for the first time.
