Chinese lessor Minsheng Financial Leasing has placed an order for a series of very large crude carriers (VLCCs) valued at nearly $500 million. The tankers, each with a deadweight tonnage of 319,000, will be built by JIANGSU NEW HANTONG SHIP HEAVY INDUSTRY. These vessels are conventional fuel-powered and fitted
with scrubbers to comply with environmental regulations. The newbuildings are scheduled for delivery between 1 October 2029 and 31 December 2030. Upon completion, the vessels will be chartered to Clearlake Shipping, expanding the operational fleet under Minsheng Financial Leasing's portfolio. This move reflects ongoing investment in large tanker assets amid evolving market demands. Minsheng Financial Leasing's decision to contract JIANGSU NEW HANTONG SHIP HEAVY INDUSTRY underscores the shipyard's role in constructing modern VLCCs equipped with emissions-reducing technology. The deal, reported on 13 August 2026, highlights continued growth in tanker leasing and chartering activities in the global maritime sector.
