MPC Container Ships ASA celebrated the naming and delivery of its new methanol-powered containership, DP WORLD SOUTHAMPTON, on 13 August 2026 in Guangzhou, China. The vessel, built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., has a capacity of 1,250 TEU and represents a step forward in green shipping technology. The naming ceremony included key participants from MPC Container Ships, CSSC Guangzhou Huangpu Shipbuilding Company Limited, DP World, Société Générale, and the American Bureau of Shipping. Laurence Illouz-Timsit of Société Générale served as the vessel’s godmother, officially naming the ship and wishing it safe voyages. The event was attended by industry partners and the crew, marking a significant milestone for the project. DP WORLD SOUTHAMPTON is part of MPC Container Ships’ ongoing commitment to sustainable maritime operations, utilizing methanol as an alternative fuel to reduce emissions.
