Sallaum Lines has signed a contract with China Merchants Shipyard for the construction of one plus one additional 8,600 CEU pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). These new vessels will be LNG dual-fuel and ammonia-ready, with deliveries scheduled for 2029. This order follows closely on the heels of Sallaum Lines' previous two-plus-two vessel order at Xiamen Shipbuilding, reflecting the company's ongoing fleet renewal program. Hassan Sallaum, managing director at Sallaum Lines, highlighted the significance of this deal as a step forward in developing the future fleet and expressed confidence in the long-term fundamentals of the PCTC market. The newbuildings are part of a broader investment strategy, bringing Sallaum Lines’ total newbuilding program to nine vessels valued at over $850 million. The contract with China Merchants Shipyard aligns with industry trends toward more environmentally friendly shipping solutions, as the vessels will be equipped to operate on LNG and be ammonia-ready, supporting decarbonization efforts in maritime transport.
