UK-based shipowner Zodiac Maritime has placed an order with CIMC Raffles for two LNG-fuelled Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) with a capacity of 7,000 car-equivalent units, with delivery scheduled for 2029. This order includes an option for two additional vessels, potentially bringing the total to four ships. Each vessel is estimated to cost over USD 100 million, making the total
value for all six ships, if options are exercised, exceed USD 600 million (approximately RMB 4.051 billion). This follows Zodiac Maritime's earlier order for two similar vessels in the first half of 2026, indicating a continued investment in LNG dual-fuel technology within the vehicle carrier segment. LNG-fuelled PCTCs are part of the industry's move toward cleaner maritime fuels to reduce emissions. The newbuilds will enhance Zodiac Maritime's fleet with modern, environmentally compliant vessels capable of meeting growing demand for car transportation. The scheduled deliveries in 2029 align with the company's long-term fleet renewal strategy amid tightening environmental regulations in shipping. Zodiac Maritime's commitment to LNG propulsion reflects broader industry trends toward sustainable shipping solutions, particularly in specialized segments like vehicle carriers.
