On 30 Jul 2026, Monaco-based shipowner and operator Scorpio Tankers announced its Q2 2026 earnings report, revealing significant fleet expansion plans. The company signed letters of intent for two LR2 product tankers equipped with scrubbers, each priced at 72.8 million US dollars, with deliveries scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2029. Additionally, Scorpio Tankers firmed orders
for two MR product tankers. In July 2026, Scorpio Tankers also acquired a minority equity stake of less than 15% in a joint venture owning eight scrubber-fitted Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) currently under construction. These VLCCs are expected to be delivered between the third quarter of 2029 and the second quarter of 2030. The company did not disclose the joint venture partner, the shipyard responsible for building the VLCCs, or the construction costs. Scorpio Tankers plans to make staged equity contributions aligned with the shipbuilding contract payment milestones. This expansion reflects Scorpio Tankers' strategic investment in modern, environmentally compliant vessels to strengthen its product tanker and crude oil carrier fleet over the coming years.
