EMS-Tech has delivered MV WONTANARA, the first of Rio Tinto SimFer's next-generation transhipment shuttle vessels, marking a significant advancement for the Simandou iron ore project. The vessel features a comprehensive EMS-Tech self-unloading system, including twin reversible longitudinal tunnel conveyors, two of the world's largest 'C' Loop elevating conveyors, and twin luffing, slewing, and shuttling shiploaders. These components, combined with EMS-Tech's patented feeder gate technology, enable an industry-leading unloading rate of 12,000 tonnes per hour. This delivery continues EMS-Tech's track record of pioneering marine bulk handling projects, following previous systems supplied to ArcelorMittal and Mineral Resources. The project was realized through collaboration with Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd., with whom EMS-Tech has partnered for over 20 years, The CSL Group Inc., and Rio Tinto Simfer. The vessel is set for performance testing and its initial unloading operation in Guinea, with additional vessels planned for delivery to support the fleet. The MV WONTANARA represents a new generation of high-capacity transhipment operations, supporting the efficient export of iron ore from the Simandou region.
