This latest contract increases Dajin Heavy’s publicly known Newcastlemax orderbook to 17 firm vessels plus one option, totaling approximately 3.58 million dwt and valued at around US$1.29 billion. Deliveries are planned from 2028 through 2030. The deal underscores Dajin Heavy’s transition from an offshore wind and marine engineering specialist to a mainstream merchant shipbuilder, with a portfolio that now includes offshore wind carriers, semi-submersible barges, heavy-lift vessels, and large bulk carriers. Dajin is set to begin delivering specialized vessels in 2027, followed by Newcastlemax and Jumbo heavy-lift ships from 2028. The company’s ability to maintain quality and delivery schedules during the 2029–2030 peak will be critical to establishing commercial shipbuilding as a sustainable growth area.
