Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of ARCTIC TERN, the first vessel in its new Shaper Class series. The 228-metre dual-fuel, methanol-ready vessel has a car capacity of 9,350 units and will be operated by EUKOR Car Carriers, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Wallenius
Wilhelmsen. ARCTIC TERN will enter service immediately on routes between Asia and Europe and is expected to complete its first methanol bunkering shortly after delivery. The vessel marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to offer net-zero end-to-end shipping services by 2027. The Shaper Class series is named after migratory birds, with ARCTIC TERN inaugurating this tradition. Wallenius Wilhelmsen plans to introduce 14 vessels in total, with the last eight being larger at 234 metres and capable of carrying up to 12,100 cars, setting a new record for car carrier capacity.
