Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) continues to expand its fleet with new orders for ultra-large LNG dual-fuel containerships built in China. MSC has placed significant orders at Hengli Heavy Industries (Dalian) for 10 vessels of 24,000 TEU capacity, alongside additional bookings for 22,000
TEU LNG-powered ships from other Chinese yards. This move aligns with MSC’s strategy to modernize its fleet with more fuel-efficient and lower-emission vessels. Over the past two years, MSC has been one of the most active companies ordering LNG dual-fuel mega boxships. The expansion is expected to increase demand for seafarers with IGF and dual-fuel experience, offering engineers more opportunities to gain real gas handling skills. The growth of LNG-powered containerships marks a significant trend in the shipping industry toward greener tonnage.
