VARD has successfully delivered NB 980, a hybrid construction and cable laying vessel, to Toyo Construction Co. Ltd., marking its first vessel delivery to the Japanese offshore wind market. The vessel, based on the VARD 9 15 design, features hybrid propulsion,
a large battery pack, shore power connection, and an energy management system to support sustainable offshore operations. It is the largest purpose-built cable laying vessel in Japan with dual capability. The project was a collaborative effort involving Toyo Construction, ClassNK, and VARD's engineering teams to ensure compliance with Japanese class and flag requirements. Alberto Maestrini, Chairman of Vard Group, acknowledged the teamwork and expertise that contributed to the vessel's completion. This delivery represents a significant advancement in Japan's offshore wind infrastructure.
