TRANSPETROL MARITIME SERVICES LTD has signed a contract with Estaleiro Rio Maguari (ERM SA) for the construction of four MR1 class tankers, each with a deadweight of 40,000 tons. The vessels will measure approximately 175 meters in length and 30 meters in width, designed for transporting petroleum and derivatives along the Brazilian coast. The contract, reported on 19 Jun 2026, is part of the Programa Mar Aberto aimed at renewing and expanding the Petrobras system fleet. Delivery of the ships is scheduled throughout 2029. These conventional-fueled tankers will feature advanced technologies to improve fuel efficiency by up to 20% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 30%, complying with IMO standards. The newbuilds will also be capable of future operation on biofuels and equipped for port electrification. This order contributes to Transpetrol's plan to increase its owned fleet from 26 to 42 vessels by 2030.
