VARD, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has signed a contract to design and build an advanced stern trawler for Norwegian fishing company Rosund Drift AS. The vessel, based on the VARD 8 02 design, will support semi-pelagic and bottom-trawling operations with a focus on sustainable fishing
practices. It will measure 80.4 meters in length and 16.7 meters in beam, featuring an ice-strengthened hull and conventional fuel propulsion. The trawler will include advanced hybrid propulsion and energy systems to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, along with flexible storage and biomass processing capabilities. Equipped with Vard Electro’s SeaQ Energy Storage System and integrated energy management, the vessel aims to optimize operational efficiency. Hull construction will take place at VARD BRAILA, with delivery scheduled between July and September 2028. This project highlights VARD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in fishing vessel design.
