Greek shipowner Iolcos Hellenic Maritime Enterprises has placed an order for two 82,000-dwt bulk carriers with NEW DAYANG SHIPBUILDING CO., LTD in China. The vessels, conventional fuel-powered Kamsarmax bulk carriers, are scheduled for delivery in 2029. This marks Iolcos' return to the newbuilding
market after three years, following its last newbuilding program completed in 2023 with three Kamsarmax vessels from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou). Iolcos currently operates a fleet of 18 bulk carriers across Panamax, Kamsarmax, and Post-Panamax segments, with a history of managing over 50 bulk carriers since 1982. The order reflects a broader trend of Greek owners re-entering the dry bulk newbuilding market in 2026, with Kamsarmax vessels being the preferred segment. The global dry bulk orderbook-to-fleet ratio stands at just over 13% by deadweight tonnage.
