CSSC has commenced construction of the world's largest LNG carrier at its Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding yard in Shanghai. The vessel, the first in the QC-Max class, is part of a historic deal between CSSC and QatarEnergy. The two companies signed contracts in 2024 to build 24 QC-Max-class LNG carriers valued at over 56 billion yuan ($8.3 billion), marking the largest shipbuilding order ever recorded. Each carrier will measure 344 meters in length, 53.6 meters in width, and have a draft of 12 meters. The ships will have a capacity of 271,000 cubic meters of LNG, approximately 57 percent more than standard LNG carriers, which typically hold up to 174,000 cubic meters. This project highlights significant advancements in LNG shipping capacity and cooperation between Chinese shipbuilding and Middle Eastern energy sectors.
