Aegean Shipping Management S.A. has signed a landmark agreement with Hengli Heavy Industries for the construction of four new tankers, including two LR2/Aframax vessels and two VLCCs. This marks the company's first entry into the VLCC segment, reflecting its strategic growth plans.
The newbuilds will be conventional fuel tankers fitted with scrubbers, each with a deadweight of 115,000 tons. Deliveries are scheduled throughout 2028. This expansion will increase Aegean's fleet to 22 vessels, comprising 16 tankers and six bulk carriers, maintaining an average fleet age of about three years. The company also anticipates the delivery of four additional LR2/Aframax newbuilds chartered to Vitol within the next six months. The agreement was announced on 3 June 2026 during Posidonia 2026, a major maritime industry event.
