Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), a ferry operator owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), is investing $1.5 billion to expand its ferry services between Europe and North Africa, focusing on Morocco. The expansion includes the introduction of two LNG dual-fuel ferries, GNV Aurora and GNV Virgo, on

the Tangier-Barcelona-Genoa route. Each vessel can carry over 1,700 passengers and features advanced emissions-reduction and energy-efficiency technologies. This investment is part of GNV's fleet renewal program and supports Morocco's growing role as a transport link between Europe and Africa, especially ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. GNV has operated services to Morocco for nearly 20 years and transported over 465,000 passengers on Moroccan routes in 2025. The new ferries enhance Tangier Med's status as a key transport and logistics hub in the region.
