Wison New Energies has entered the very large crude carrier (VLCC) market with a contract from United Overseas Group Ltd. (UOG) to build up to 10 tankers. The deal includes six firm orders for 319,000-deadweight-ton vessels and four optional units, with
deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2027. Financial terms were not disclosed. Previously known for offshore facilities such as floating liquefied natural gas units, Wison is expanding into large-scale vessel construction. The Shanghai-based company is currently engaged in projects including the Sakarya floating production unit and bids for FPSO vessels for Eni and Ithaca Energy. This contract marks a strategic move for Wison, broadening its expertise from energy infrastructure to mainstream merchant shipbuilding and reflecting growing demand for new tanker capacity.
