Petronas LNG Ltd. has signed a 20-year time charter agreement with MISC Group for five newbuild 174,000-cbm LNG carriers, formalized in mid-May 2026. The vessels, scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030, will be constructed at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai and feature advanced XDF2.1 propulsion,
shaft generators, and onboard reliquefaction plants to minimize boil-off gas losses. Each carrier will use GTT’s NO96 Super+ containment systems to comply with environmental standards expected in the 2030s. The long-term charter provides Petronas with guaranteed capacity and MISC with stable revenue through 2050. MISC will manage the project from construction oversight to full operational management, reflecting a trend toward integrated life-cycle management in the LNG shipping sector. This fleet expansion supports Petronas’s strategy to maintain a resilient and low-carbon LNG supply chain amid shifting global energy demands.
