Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines, the world's second-largest ship owner, is in discussions with Cochin Shipyard to build ships in India. The company is also planning investments in terminals, rail logistics, and startups within the country. Currently, India accounts for less than 1% of global shipbuilding, making this collaboration a significant development for the Indian maritime industry. Mitsui OSK Lines operates a fleet of 935 ships, underscoring the scale of the potential partnership. This move could enhance India's shipbuilding capabilities and infrastructure, aligning with broader efforts to expand its presence in the global maritime sector.
