Safe Bulkers, Inc. announced on 11 May 2026 that it has entered into recapitulation agreements to acquire four newbuild dry bulk vessels from OSHIMA SHIPBUILDING CO LTD - OSHIMA SHIPYARD. The order includes three 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax class bulk carriers and one 182,000 dwt Capesize
class vessel, with deliveries scheduled between January and September 2029. The three Kamsarmax vessels will be financed from the company's cash reserves, while the Capesize vessel will be acquired via a finance lease under a bareboat charter agreement for ten years, with purchase options after five years. All vessels will comply with IMO GHG-EEDI Phase 3 and NOx-Tier III emissions standards. This acquisition expands Safe Bulkers' fleet renewal strategy, which currently includes eleven newbuild vessels on order, supporting the company’s focus on maintaining a modern and environmentally compliant fleet.
