Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has completed the world's first installation of the Wind Challenger System (WCS) on an LNG carrier. The system, developed by MOL and structurally designed and outfitted by Hanwha Ocean, is expected to deliver fuel savings of up to 12% per voyage, depending on weather and sea conditions. The WCS features two sails that harness wind power to reduce fuel consumption. Hanwha Ocean received Approval in Principle (AIP) for the system's structural and outfitting design. MOL commended Hanwha Ocean for its innovative technical solutions during the installation process. This development marks a significant step in advancing fuel efficiency for LNG carriers.
