The China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. has completed delivery of the nation's first 180,000 cbm gas carrier, marking a significant milestone in Chinese shipbuilding. Named Celsius Georgetown, the vessel was ordered in 2022 as part of a four-ship project, including two optional units, with construction starting in 2023. Designed by Deltamarin, the ship measures 299 meters in length and has a deadweight of 96,000 tons. Registered in the Marshall Islands for Denmark's Celsius Shipping, the carrier features a dual-fuel, low-speed engine powered by two MAN engines and incorporates air lubrication technology for the hull. Compared to previous Chinese LNG carriers, Celsius Georgetown offers substantially higher LNG capacity and improved environmental performance with minimal evaporation. This achievement highlights China's growing capabilities in the LNG carrier sector, traditionally dominated by South Korean shipyards.
