Western Baltija Shipbuilding, part of the WESTERN SHIPYARD GROUP, has successfully launched a new hybrid ferry for Norwegian company Torghatten Nord AS. The 73.3-metre-long and 14.3-metre-wide vessel is designed to transport passengers, vehicles, and cargo between Norwegian islands. It primarily operates on battery-electric propulsion, with conventional fuel as a backup. The project is a turnkey delivery developed in collaboration with The Norwegian Ship Design Company and other contributors within the Western Shipyard Group. The launch marks the transition from construction to outfitting, with final preparations underway before delivery. This hybrid ferry reflects ongoing efforts in green shipping and sustainable maritime engineering.
