Knowledge Marine and Engineering Works Limited (KMEW) has acquired approximately 15 acres of waterfront land in Saphale, Palghar district, Maharashtra, through its subsidiary Knowledge Shipyard Pvt Ltd, with an option to expand by an additional 5 acres. The site is located along the Vaitarna River,
close to the upcoming Vadhvan Port, providing about 188 metres of waterfront access, a natural slipway, and an estimated high-tide draft of 6 metres. This location is expected to benefit from construction activity, maintenance demand, and commercial shipbuilding opportunities linked to the new deep-water port. KMEW, India's largest private dredging company, operates a fleet of over 45 specialised vessels. The acquisition marks a strategic move into commercial shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure, aligning with India's National Shipbuilding Mission and the planned expansion of the country's fleet by 437 vessels.
