Everllence’s ammonia-fuelled two-stroke engine, the B&W 6G60ME-LGIA, has successfully passed its factory acceptance test at HD Hyundai’s Engine & Machinery Division in Korea. This dual-fuel engine, featuring HPSCR technology, is set for installation on a vessel built by HD Hyundai for Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte.
Ltd., with the first VLAC expected for delivery in October 2026. The ME-LGIA engine builds on Everllence’s existing methanol and LPG platforms and includes safety features tailored for ammonia use, such as specialized maintenance systems, sensors, ventilation, and double-walled piping. This milestone marks a significant step toward commercial deployment of ammonia propulsion, moving beyond laboratory and pilot phases. While challenges remain in commercial, safety, and fuel supply aspects, Everllence plans to offer the engine in six bore sizes with retrofit options, signaling ammonia’s growing role in maritime decarbonisation.
