Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with South Korea’s Hanwh Ocean for six ultra-large container ships, each with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. The vessels will feature LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems, shaft generators, and air lubrication systems to reduce emissions and comply with IMO decarbonization standards. The order is valued between US$1.6 billion and US$1.8 billion, with each ship costing approximately US$265 million to US$295 million. Measuring 400 meters in length and 61.5 meters in width, the new ships will enhance Evergreen’s capacity and route optimization while supporting its green shipping initiatives. This deal reflects a recovery in the global shipbuilding market and a premium on green technology.
