Chowgule Shipyard has successfully launched FRISIAN FUTURE, the first export vessel built at its revived Mangalore shipyard. The 8,500 DWT general cargo vessel, equipped with diesel-electric propulsion, recently sailed for sea trials ahead of delivery. Constructed under Lloyd’s Register classification, the vessel complies
with IMO Conventions, SOLAS, MARPOL, and IMO Tier III environmental standards. Flying the Netherlands flag, FRISIAN FUTURE was built for Boomsma Shipping Netherlands and marks a significant milestone for the Mangalore facility, which spans 50 acres and supports over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs. This development highlights India’s growing shipbuilding capabilities under the Make in India initiative, emphasizing the country’s ability to produce modern, environmentally compliant vessels for international owners. The Mangalore shipyard’s revival positions it as a new player on the global shipbuilding map.
