On 16 Apr 2026, SUMEC Marine and its subsidiary Xinyang Shipbuilding signed a contract with Seaspan for the construction of four 65,200 DWT open-top rail-mounted gantry crane multi-purpose vessels. The signing ceremony was attended by Li Kun, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Seaspan, and He Jun, Deputy General Manager of SUMEC Group and Chairman of SUMEC Marine. These vessels will enhance Seaspan's fleet capabilities in handling diverse cargo types. The contract reflects ongoing collaboration between Seaspan and SUMEC Marine, both recognized players in the maritime industry. The newbuilds are expected to support Seaspan's operational expansion in global shipping.
