On March 5, 2026, Hong Kong marked a significant milestone in maritime decarbonization as the methanol dual-fuel ro-ro vessel CM HONG KONG successfully completed the port's first green methanol bunkering. Approximately 500 tonnes of certified green methanol were transferred via ship-to-ship operation from the bunkering vessel DA QING 268. The initiative involved several major companies, including China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd./China Merchants RoRo, CIMC Enric, Sinopec (Hong Kong) Petroleum Holding Company Limited, SINOBUNKER, and Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited. Supported by the Hong Kong SAR Government, this operation demonstrated the city's ability to support alternative marine fuels and is part of efforts to increase the use of green fuels by Hong Kong-registered ships to 7% by 2030. The event underscores Hong Kong's ambition to become a leading green marine fuel bunkering hub in Asia.
