On March 18, Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. delivered the new electric ferry BJARKØY to Norwegian operator Torghatten Nord AS. Construction of the environmentally friendly vessel began in May 2024. BJARKØY is powered by battery systems with a total capacity of approximately 2.3 MWh and features two azimuth thrusters with vertically mounted electric motors. For reliability, the ferry is also equipped with two backup generator sets. The batteries are recharged from the shore grid during loading and unloading, as each crossing takes no more than 12 minutes. The vessel was constructed based on a design by The Norwegian Ship Design Company, with working documentation support from Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting.
