CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of the CIMC Group, has entered into a significant contract with Oslo-listed Bruton Ltd for the construction of four 319,000 DWT Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). This marks CIMC Raffles’ debut in the large crude carrier sector, broadening its shipbuilding portfolio beyond offshore and specialized vessels. The VLCCs, designed by MARIC, will feature modern specifications and meet rigorous international environmental standards. For Bruton Ltd, the deal strengthens its position as a key player in the VLCC market, while for CIMC Raffles, it represents both a commercial achievement and a strategic milestone. The agreement reflects growing interest in VLCC investments and signals increased competitiveness among Chinese shipyards in mainstream commercial shipbuilding.
