Tanzania has recently celebrated the inauguration of the MV Mwanza, the largest passenger and cargo vessel ever constructed entirely within the country, at the port of Mwanza on Lake Victoria. Valued at $43 million, the MV Mwanza is capable of carrying 1,200 passengers, 400 tonnes of cargo, and over 20 vehicles. Officials expect the new vessel to significantly enhance trade and connectivity among Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, bolstering regional economic ties and transport. The launch is being hailed as a milestone for Tanzania’s shipbuilding industry and a demonstration of the potential of local engineering.
