The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has announced a partnership with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries to explore the use of nuclear-powered electric propulsion for container ships. This joint development project aims to assess the technical feasibility of this carbon-free propulsion technology for a 16,000 TEU vessel. If successful, the project could mark a significant step toward safer, more efficient, and low-emission maritime operations.
