Yesterday, the shipyard team in Mombasa marked a significant achievement with the successful launch of two 16.3-meter aluminium patrol boats under construction for the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA). The vessels, named TPA Lindo 1 (Dar es Salaam) and TPA Lindo 2 (Mwanza), were officially christened and entered the water for the first time. Designed by Southerly Designs and classed by Bureau Veritas Group, both vessels feature twin Caterpillar engines and Kamewa waterjets, enabling speeds of up to 35 knots. The project highlights Kenya's growing shipbuilding capabilities, with all construction carried out by local technicians and craftsmen. The next phase for the new patrol boats is sea trials.
