UK shipowner Union Maritime has reportedly entered into a preliminary agreement with a Chinese shipyard to construct up to four Newcastlemax bulk carriers, each at 215,000 DWT. The deal, which consists of two firm orders and two optional vessels, is expected to see deliveries in 2028. This move marks Union Maritime's debut in the newbuilding market for large bulk carriers, expanding its operations beyond its established tanker fleet and reinforcing its presence in the dry bulk shipping sector.
