Malaysian shipping company MISC has signed shipbuilding contracts with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for two new LNG carriers, expanding its long-term charter programme with PETRONAS LNG Ltd (PLL) to a total of five vessels. According to a filing to Bursa Malaysia dated 2 March 2026, the contracts were executed on 27 February 2026 and stipulate that the vessels will be chartered to PLL for 20 years, with deliveries and charter commencements scheduled for 2029 and 2030. This agreement follows MISC’s earlier disclosure on 3 February 2026 about receiving a letter of award from PLL for the charter of three other LNG carriers. PLL is a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of PETRONAS. MISC stated that the project does not require shareholder or government approvals and is not expected to materially impact its financial results for the year ending 31 December 2026.
