COFCO International is reportedly exploring the possibility of ordering new bow-accommodation 62,000 dwt multipurpose (MPP heavy-lift) vessels, a next-generation design recently contracted by Chipolbrok and developed by SDARI. This move signals a shift in the MPP market, with such vessels increasingly seen as strategic assets for industrial and commodity supply chains, rather than niche solutions for project logistics. If confirmed, it would be COFCO International’s first direct step into owning this class of vessel rather than relying solely on charters. Additionally, the company plans a comprehensive Lloyd’s Register (LR) assessment of its medium- to long-term chartered fleet, demonstrating a growing focus on compliance and technical transparency.
