The Tsakos Group is on the verge of finalising an agreement with South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of two firm 174,000 cu m LNG carriers, with options for two additional vessels. The newbuilds are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2028, marking Tsakos Energy Navigation’s (TEN) first return to LNG carrier orders since 2019. TEN currently operates more than 80 ships and has over 20 vessels under construction across various tanker segments. Other notable orders in the LNG carrier sector include Sonangol, Seapeak, Purus, and Alpha Gas placing contracts with leading South Korean shipyards.
