Maersk has received the 'Tangier Maersk,' the first in a new series of six mid-size vessels constructed by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China. Each vessel in this series has a capacity of about 9,000 TEU and is equipped with dual fuel engines capable of running on methanol, indicating a shift towards greener fleet renewal. The 'Tangier Maersk' was delivered three months ahead of schedule and is set to operate on Maersk’s TP15 service, connecting East Asia with the US Gulf via the Panama Canal. This development highlights the growing importance of mid-size and feeder vessels in sustaining global trade, as opposed to just ultra-large container ships. The industry is seeing a surge in orders for feeder vessels, with 206 units ordered for 2025, compared to 118 in 2024, reflecting significant fleet renewal efforts.
