Today, MSC Cruises announced a landmark agreement with German shipbuilder MEYER WERFT for the construction of four next-generation cruise ships, with options for two additional vessels. The new ships, part of the 'New Frontier' platform, will be built at MEYER WERFT’s shipyard in Papenburg and are scheduled for annual delivery starting in 2030. Each vessel will have a passenger capacity of 5,400 and a gross tonnage of approximately 180,000. The agreement was announced at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin, with key representatives including MEYER WERFT’s Ralf Schmitz and Dr. Bernd Eikens, Lower Saxony’s Energy Minister-President Olaf Lies, Federal Minister Katherina Reiche, and MSC Cruises’ Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago. The collaboration aims to set new standards in the cruise industry while emphasizing German maritime engineering excellence.
