Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has secured a landmark international contract from Denmark-based Svitzer for the construction of four next-generation, fully electric harbour tugs, with an option for four additional vessels. The deal, valued between Rs 250 crore and Rs 500 crore, marks a significant advancement for CSL in green vessel construction. The TRAnsverse 2600E tugs, each 26 metres long and capable of a 70-ton bollard pull, will be built at CSL’s Kochi yard, with the first delivery expected from late 2027. The vessels will be deployed across environmentally sensitive regions including northern Europe, South America, and Australia, supporting Svitzer’s fleet decarbonisation strategy and reinforcing CSL’s role in sustainable shipbuilding.
