Jiangnan Shipyard has reached a significant milestone in green container shipping with its 19,000 TEU LNG and battery hybrid container vessel, 'KUN 19N,' receiving Approval in Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register. The KUN 19N, designed and developed in-house, is the latest vessel in Jiangnan's next-generation 'KUN' series and features an innovative hybrid power system integrating LNG fuel tanks, battery packs, diesel generators, and shaft generators. This design allows for dual-fuel boiler operation without a gas combustion unit, optimized generator loading, increased energy efficiency, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The vessel also boasts a combined aft accommodation and engine casing, integrated forward wheelhouse, and aerodynamic funnel, maximizing container capacity while maintaining navigational safety. The KUN 19N highlights the shift toward smart, integrated green technologies in the maritime industry.
