At the Marintec China 2025 exhibition, China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group announced a significant contract with Germany’s Neu Seeschiffahrt GmbH for six 342,000 DWT Very Large Ore Carriers (VLOCs). This is the first major VLOC project for the restructured Qingdao Shipyard since joining the China Merchants system, highlighting its renewed competitiveness in the global market. Neu Seeschiffahrt, based in Hamburg, is recognized for its high operational standards and diverse fleet. The new order underlines China Merchants’ growing reputation in high-efficiency and environmentally advanced large bulk carrier construction, as the group sharpens its focus on shipbuilding and marine equipment. The deal marks a strong start for China Merchants’ new brand identity and its ambitions in next-generation merchant vessel building.
