On November 28th in Shanghai, the Grimaldi Group officially christened and took delivery of its new ammonia-ready pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), the Grande Istanbul. Built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited (SWS) and China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited (CSTC)—key subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC)—the vessel was celebrated in a ceremony attended by representatives from the shipyards, Grimaldi Group, and partners including SANY Group. Chunyan Yuan, Vice President of SANY, served as the vessel's godmother, highlighting the strong business relationship between the companies. The Grande Istanbul is designed for sustainability, featuring a state-of-the-art engine, shore-power readiness, and 'Ammonia Ready' class notation from RINA, which together cut CO₂ emissions per transported unit by up to 50% compared to older vessels. With a capacity of 9,241 CEU and advanced cargo features, the new ship will enhance Grimaldi’s East Asia–Persian Gulf route offerings and marks another milestone in the company’s commitment to green shipping.
